1)Suspend your rationale thinking for a moment, and imagine that the place you all know best involving established authority - school - is suddenly without teachers, Ms. Nadeau, etc. for an extended period of time (think weeks). What would happen?
-I think that if we were at school without any supervision, kids would break up into several groups. Almost like Rome, kids would have their own city-states and fight for who rules. Seniors would try to lay down the law but immature underclassmen would test their boundaries. It would become chaos, with stealing, fighting and doing anything to get your own way.
2)On page 70, Golding writes that Ralph "...wanted to explain that people were never quite what you thought they were." Write about this, both in the context of the book and its characters as well as your own experiences in life.
-In the book, we learned that Jack and Roger were very violent and caused most of the trouble between the boys. Jack, who at first tried to lead along with Ralph, quickly started doing things his own way and ignoring anything Ralph said. Then, after teasing Piggy and beating on other boys, we learned that he wasn't who we thought he was in the beginning of the book. In life we see this everywhere. The death of Monica, Coty and Amy was not only tragic but surprising. Killed by their own father, and ex-husband, we all never thought Steven would go this far and murder them. Even when you think you know someone completely, there can always be a surprising twist.
