1)What do you think Golding might have been trying to say about society and politics?
-I think Golding was trying to bring to our attention that politics are everywhere no matter what age. Jack, who was popular among the boys, quickly persuaded them to take his side and vote him to lead with Ralph. The smarter choice would have been for Piggy and Ralph to lead who both had brains and common sense. The society is influenced by politics every day. Everything has become a popularity contest instead of choosing someone or something best fitted for the position.
2)Two symbols that stood out to me
-The first big symbol was the beast. The littluns swore that they saw a beast which started the hunt to kill it. It just so happened that a man died on the island and was mistaken for the beast. The boys went crazy and when they thought Simon was the beast, Simon ended up dead. The second symbol is the pigs head. That is how the "Lord of the Flies" was first brought up. Simon thought the pig was talking to him but passed out before getting back to the boys. Ralph went back to the pig, which after was just a skull sitting upon a stick. Ralph used the stick as a weapon to protect himself from the other boys.
